I found this hilarious article about Bavarian food, and when reading through it, I realized that a lot of things mentioned are also examples of traditional Czech cuisine.*
*Czech cuisine was imported mostly from other areas nearby, and in fact I’m hard pressed to think of an example which is distinctly CZECH. Dumplings and Goulash are Hungarian and Pork Knuckle is mentioned in the article (as is beer and sauerkraut). Czech food isn’t the same as anywhere else, but it’s not distinctly unique, either…..except for maybe the beer and becherovka….and I must admit that the fact that they keep live carp in their apartment bathtubs in the weeks leading up till Christmas is a pretty bizarre tradition that I haven’t seen anywhere else.
